Alexandros Megapanos was born in Athens in 1960. He studied Biochemical Engineering in Brussels , Belgium (C.E.R.I.A Institut des Industries de Fermentation, Institut Meurice Chimie) and specialized in Fermentation Industries. Then he studied oenology at the University of Bordeaux II , France . During his studies he worked for various wine makers in France , such as Chateau Margaux, the CIVRB (Bergerac).
Between 1988 and 1990 he worked on a freelance basis in Greece and it was during this time that he became aware of the possibilities that Greek grape varieties possessed.
In 1990 he started his own company in Spata, Attica , with bottling facilities and an oenological laboratory. In 1997 the winery moves to privately owned brand new premises in Pikermi, Attica.
The philosophy of the company is the production of a limited quantity of excellent quality wines (VQPRD and regional wines) from renowned wine producing areas of Greece . The aim is to especially value the local character of the native grape varieties and emphasize the particular characteristics of each year's wines. In 1999, with the co-operation of several winemakers from the region of Attica , the Federation of Wine Producers of Attica was established and is responsible for implementing programs for the development and promotion of the region's wine production. |
